October Issue

By Paul Alfred Perry

Spring showers bring relief from the plague of fire.  October 31, 2011

WE HAVE RAIN!!! Glory To God!!!” After returning from Singapore this was an email from a Sunday school teacher. It was extremely encouraging to us and Ashley says we should share it with all of you. “Dear Ashley & Paul.

Today I finally got to show the class the letter from you & a video clip posted from your website (Global Equip).  This is the very 1st time the class got to 'hear' & 'see' what mission work is like.  They were very excited & delighted that they can actually write to you both in person.  Here are their letters to you....”

It must be dangerous & scary riding on a boat on the river with crocodiles in it.  I really envy you; you can go out & help, preach to the villagers.  Thank you for using your precious time to introduce & preach about God.   God will definitely help you get the funds needed for your mission.   Good job & don't give up!   You can do it!  Thank you once more!   Chan Yee Qi (10)” “You are doing well!  Keep it up!

I am inspired by you!  When I grow up, I want to be a missionary too!! Gabriel (9)”“I felt very touched for what you all have done in Brazil.   If you did not do that, the people in the village would die & suffer from not having clean water.  If I was one of the people of the village, I do not know how to thank you all.  All I want to say is, you had done a good job!   You are good missionaries! Faith (10)”

Friday Nite Fire!

Friday night fire, the headlights are shinning on one of our cabins.

Just a few weeks after returning from Singapore we came home on a Friday night to this scene in our back yard.  The mountain was on fire.  Over the next 10 days a helicopter came, several teams of fire fighters came, 10 of our friends came to help as well by making a fire break in the woods to protect our land.  We had a few days rest when another fire started very close to our land, the day I was leaving for the international “ISOM 20th anniversary” conference in the USA.  So two hours before I left for an international flight we called again on the local fire fighters who showed up after I left for the airport.

After arriving in America at my mother’s home, came the good news of the week.  All the fires were out and everything was under control!  Then a week later another phone call that someone had set some leaves on fire inside our ranch to get rid of some wasps.

The fire went wild in a matter of hours and I had to return to Brazil for damage control and stress relief for Ashley who was completely over whelmed with the chain of events.  Now, I am in Brazil and not in the USA to speak at the “ISOM 20th” which would have some focus on our work in the Amazon and the missions training program.

  The fire

Berin the president and founder of ISOM in the USA emailed and called us in Brazil asking us both to come to the regional center conference to share about our work. After figuring out that it would cost 300,000 accumulated miles; I was able to make arrangements at the very last minute using nearly every accumulated mile of both Ashley and I. By the grace of God we made the trip and the blessing of God over the conference was obvious as we fellowshipped and shared testimonies with missionaries from around the world.

Many were serving in some of the most dangerous and closed nations in the world bringing the gospel truth and discipleship to the unreached. We were also the recipient of one of the sets of equipment for unreached people groups. (A completely portable solar charged kit was put together especially for the purpose of training the indigenous of the Amazon and other hard to reach and underground places around the world.) In Brazil over 75% of pastors in some denominations have no Bible school training at all. Please pray that the Lord would open doors for us to be able to reach out and connect directly with denominations to begin to better equip the pastors and leaders of this nation.

God willing we are starting our first small group of trainees in the mission’s training school as well next March.  To help support missions and our work in the Amazon we will also be renting out the facility from time to time; some have already made reservations and payments which help with our monthly expenses.  We are extremely happy moving forward with the vision!

This is once again the time of year I have to put tires on our vehicles.  This time both cars are in need at the same time and as usual the prices have gone up to some absurd levels. Each tire for the truck is $425.00 totaling $2,125 dollars for a set of 5.  Even my spare is completely bald this time.  The 94 Honda will only need four tires and thankfully at half the price but it also needs new bushings and shocks for the whole suspension.  As always God will provide so we just keep going forward and trusting God for all He has plans for!

Dr Berin with his pastor

Dr. Berin with his pastor, Jim Cobrea, after presenting our portable ISOM school unit to us!

At the conference we met up with Chad Daniel from Youthbytes.com.  He is presently working heavily in Brazil reaching thousands of youth with the gospel! I would encourage anyone with youth in your church to check out this incredible resource for reaching the youth of today.   www.youthbytes.com

While we are on the subject! www.ISOM.org has the most impressive resources available to train workers, new pastors, and members of your church or even you individually.  I would strongly encourage you to check out all the new resources available.  The core material is completely in English and most courses are available bi-lingual in up to 70 languages to equip your missionaries as well! Some of the new courses include reaching Muslims and starting a business!

On the 20th of October we (My Mother and I) will be going to the Amazon to minister at one of our graduation services for about 70 students!  Then off to Manaus and Maues to look into finding the right people for building the boat and also to visit a village for a day.

As much as is possible in a newsletter we would like to thank all of you for your prayers and support this last year.  Please keep us in your prayers; though God is always greater than the circumstances the challenges we face never seem to diminish.

May the Lord continually bless you and keep you in all you do for His glory!
